The First law of Newton
The
law of inertia for the first time has been established by Galilej for
a case of horizontal movement: when the body moves on a horizontal plane
its movement is uniform and would proceed constantly if the plane reached
in space endlessly. Newton has given more the general formulation to
the law of inertia as to the first law of movement: any body stays in
a condition of rest or uniform rectilinear movement until forces acting
on it will not change this condition....
In
a life this law describes a case when if to cease to pull or push a
moving body it stops, instead of continues to move with constant speed.
So the car with the switched off engine stops. Under the law of Newton
on sliding by inertia the car braking force which in practice resistance
of air and friction of automobile tires about a surface of highway is
should operate. They also inform the car negative acceleration until
it to not stop.
Lack
of the given formulation of the law is that in it did not contain instructions
on necessity of reference of movement to inertial system of coordinates.
The matter is that Newton did not use concept of inertial system of
coordinates, - instead of it it entered concept of absolute space -
homogeneous and motionless, - with which connected a certain absolute
system of coordinates concerning which speed of a body was defined.
When the triviality of absolute space as absolute system of readout
has been revealed, the law of inertia began to be formulated differently:
concerning inertial system of coordinates the free body keeps a condition
of rest or uniform rectilinear movement.
